Midterm Exam Review

The midterm is in class on Thursday, October 15th. It is closed book and covers every lecture through Agentic Software Engineering II (Tuesday, October 13th): software archeology, measurement and metrics, project planning and agile, software teams and communication, testing, architecture, static and dynamic analysis, and both agentic software engineering lectures. The guest lecture is not covered.

Exam format

  • Part 1, multiple choice. Basic knowledge of the concepts from lecture. Pick the best answer.
  • Part 2, short answer. Scenario questions drawn from the lectures. Answer each in a paragraph, naming the concepts from class that apply.
  • You have the whole class period. Bring your UCF ID.

Review Slides

The review deck collects the most important slides from each lecture. If you can explain every slide in it to a classmate, you are ready.

Interactive Review Studio

The review studio below has one module per exam topic. Each module has something to press, sort, or decide, with instant feedback, followed by a practice quiz written in the spirit of the exam (the questions are not the exam's questions). Use ← and → to jump between modules.

How to use it

Work through a module, then close the slides and try to reproduce the key ideas from memory. The interactive examples are meant to make the ideas stick, not to replace the slides. The short-answer scenarios at the end are the best preparation for Part 2: write your answer first, then reveal the outline and compare.

How to Study

  1. Start with the review slides and the lecture decks on the schedule. Read for the named ideas: the laws, fallacies, theorems, patterns, and process steps. Those are what multiple-choice questions ask about.
  2. For every topic, be able to give one concrete example of each concept. Short-answer questions describe a scenario and ask you to apply at least two concepts to it.
  3. Use the review studio to test yourself, and re-read the slide for anything you missed.
  4. Ask questions on Ed Discussions. If several people are stuck on the same idea, I will post a clarification for everyone.
